SGC Overview

What is the SGC?

The School Governance Council is a governing body that is representative of the community and the school, but operates under the control and management of the Board of Education.   The School Governance Council is commonly referred to as the "SGC" or the "Governance Council".  The Governance Council is responsible for making decisions regarding the strategic direction of the school including:

  • Approve the school strategic plan and updates
  • Approve the annual budget and annual resource allocations
  • Manage the Request for Flexibility process
  • Participate in hiring the principal (in the case of a vacancy)
  • Provide annual feedback on principal performance

Parent representatives are elected by other RCMS parents while staff representatives are elected by the school staff.  If you are interested in serving on the SGC, the time period to declare candidacy typically opens in February and closes in March.  Elections take place in March and April.

Seeking the next RCMS School Governance Council Members

Image soliciting parent SGC members

The Ridgeview SGC is seeking parents who will be elected through the candidate declaration process to join our council's strategic work. In addition to typical council responsibilities, the RCMS SGC is strategically focused on two unique committees - Ridgeview United which aims to celebrate the diversity of Ridgeview's diverse community inside and outside of the school and Enhancing the RCMS Image which aims to improve the image of RCMS inside and outside of the school.
