The Ridgeview United Bands is comprised of 6 band classes, a percussion ensemble, and a jazz band. Daily concert band classes include the 7th grade Intermediate Band, 8th grade Intermediate Band, 6th Grade Beginning Band, and the premier performing ensemble, The Symphonic Band. Students receive daily instruction on their instruments in a full ensemble setting and periodic sectionals with instrument-specific professional musicians throughout the school year. With thirty percent of our student body enrolled in a band class, it is great to be a part of our Ridgeview Band family!
Many families choose to rent instruments from local instrument rental shops that you can visit in person. Online instrument rental companies will also ship an instrument to your home. Contact Coach Hudson if you are interested in purchasing your own instrument.
Fulton County Schools guarantee the use of instruments during the school year regardless of payment. Ridgeview offers flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, bassoon, oboe, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba for rental. The Ridgeview Foundation supplements all instrument accessories that families may not be able to provide. The instrument rental fee is $35.00 per semester or $70.00 per year. The rental fee is handled through Online School Payments.
The Ridgeview United Bands have a strict concert uniform policy for students that includes the Ridgeview United Bands black button, found on Online School Payments. Students must wear all black pants or skirts, black socks, and solid black shoes. Students may not wear shorts. Crocs are prohibited. Concert Black Professional Wear is the standard for most performing arts programs across the country. Ridgeview United Bands, with the help of the Foundation, will provide the concert black shirt regardless of payment.
The Ridgeview United Jazz Band has a rich history of jazz in the Atlanta and Sandy Springs area. Students participate in the Rialto Youth Jazz program where professional musicians from Georgia State give specialized attention to the students in Jazz Band. Jazz Band is open to all 7th and 8th grade students in a music class. In order to maintain a healthy jazz band, we must have participating members that play saxophones, trumpets, trombones, drum set, piano, bass, and guitar. 6th graders may start Jazz Band in January.
The Jazz Band meets every Friday morning at 7:45am.
