The IB Learner Profile Image

As devoted, relationships-driven teachers and staff at Ridgeview, we aim to develop active learners and internationally-minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaining. We empower students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally, and globally. Ridgview's academic approach is guided by this International Baccalaureate Programme Middle Years lens, and the result is incredible young people who are creative, critical, and reflective thinkers.

Our staff knows that for students to be able to perform in a dynamic, student-centered IB program, they need to build critical skills necessary for high school and beyond. Across Ridgeview's campus, our teachers plan high-engagement instructional strategies that no matter the class or content build skills in five essential areas that Ridgeview believes are critical for life-long success: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. We call this W.I.C.O.R.-izing our instruction. We believe that strong, compitent students are the result when students see the connection of skill-building between their classes.

We know our students well -- it's a bedrock of our approach -- and so our staff recognizes that each student demonstrates mastery at different times. We are experts in personalizing learning for our students including flexibly pacing, varying strategies, and providing student choice-and-voice in learning.

Ridgeview's academic approach is unique and is a robust development of Fulton County School's curriculum which meets requirements of both the Georgia Standards of Excellence and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Accrediting Division.

Essential skills across all classes and subject areas build, we believe, confident students who are prepared for high school and beyond. At Ridgeview, our staff is trained in proven, high engagement strategies in five areas: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. We call this W.I.C.O.R.-izing instruction. We have been taught these skills through our participation in AVID's teacher training program, and we have become a certified AVID showcase school where educators from around our county, state, or even the nation come to see these strategies expertly modeled in action.

Students don't learn at the same pace, and students don't always demonstrate mastery in the same ways. Teachers at Ridgeview embrace these challenges with a toolbox of strategies to meet students' individual needs. Ridgeview is a county-recognized model for a personalized learning climate amongst its faculty and staff. We use varied strategies, flexible pacing, and choice in demonstrating learning to co-partner with students as active participants in their educational process. We harness the power of student-issued devices and Microsoft Teams as part of our personalized learning approach.
